Overview

Welcome to the Clintonville Area Commission (CAC). The CAC was empowered in 1974 by the Columbus City Charter to represent the Clintonville community in the discussion of community concerns. By City Code, the purpose of the CAC is to “…afford additional voluntary citizen participation in the decision making in an advisory capacity and to facilitate communications, understanding and cooperation between neighborhood groups, city officials and developers”. Our current corporate headquarters has been moved and is now located in Southwest Clintonville, in one of the brand new mobile office trailers that were supplied by Portable Offices, a long-time supporter of our efforts.

Commission By-Laws

The CAC is governed by a set of By-Laws. These By-Laws establish the order of procedures under which the Clintonville Area Commission (CAC) shall execute those duties and functions set forth in and with the authority granted under Chapter 3109 of Columbus City Code. The Commission shall not endorse any candidate for public office.

Permits & Variances

Property owners contemplating changes or improvements to their property usually need to notify the city Trade & Development Dept.’s Building Regulation Division to obtain a building permit. If they determine that a variance is needed from the city zoning code, the applicant files the appropriate form to request the change. Visit the Zoning & Permits section for an overview of the process. CAC variance or zoning review includes a neighborhood review, which is facilitated by the CAC for all Clintonville area requests. The city officials consider the CAC’s resulting recommendation in their final decision, and a CAC commissioner usually accompanies the applicant to the City Board of Zoning Appeals.
